Treaty 1 Territory | November 28, 2025
Brokenhead Ojibway Nation is proud to share a truly historic milestone for our Nation and for First Nations children, youth, and families across Manitoba.
The Link: Youth and Family Supports—an organization that has served communities for 96 years—has now been placed under the governance of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation (BON)!
What this means:
• BON is now the sole member of The Link corporation. This transition, effective at the Annual General Meeting on September 25, 2025, is the first of its kind in Manitoba, and possibly in Canada—an established organization moving under First Nations governance.
• Leadership that reflects the community: With nearly 70% of the young people and families served identifying as First Nations, this change ensures that leadership and decision-making align with the communities The Link supports.
• Culturally grounded care: This transition strengthens The Link’s services by grounding them in First Nations culture, values, and traditions—guided by our teachings, community voices, and lived experiences.
“This is a pivotal moment for our Nation. Having The Link come under Brokenhead Ojibway Nation’s governance reflects our commitment to ensuring that children and youth across Manitoba receive care rooted in First Nations culture, values and traditions. We are entering a new era of youth and family services, one led by our communities and guided by our teachings.”
— Chief Gordon BlueSky, Brokenhead Ojibway Nation
Board Representation
We proudly welcome BON’s new representatives to The Link’s Board of Directors: Erica Straight-Bear, Pam Kent, and Wendell (Ogimaa) Sinclair Jr.
Their leadership ensures BON’s voice and vision guide the organization into its next chapter. This milestone represents sovereignty in action—a powerful step forward in self-determination, community-led leadership, and reconciliation in practice.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Chief and Council for their dedication and leadership in achieving this historic governance transition.
