The Brokenhead Ojibway Nation Health Center is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a full-time position as a Mental Wellness Worker. Under direct supervision of the Wellness Coordinator, the Mental Wellness Worker will provide individual and group mental health counseling sessions for youth, adults, couples, and families in the Health Center and community, and actively engage in activities that promote health and wellness in the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant mental health or social work profession, with a
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience, working within complex systems
    • Minimum of 5 years’ experience, working in an Indigenous community
    • Demonstrated results in developing program models, strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation.
    • Combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Practical oral communication skills
  • Organizational skills, time management, and efficiency in achieving set objectives
  • Self-regulation and self-motivation
  • Group facilitating skills
  • Competence in individual, couples, family, and group counseling skills
  • Competence in substance use interventions
  • Competence in trauma and crisis interventions
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and Indigenous healing modalities, practices, and ceremonies
  • Understanding and appreciation of the effects of colonization, trauma, racism, marginalization, discrimination, and disempowerment on health and wellness
  • Eligible to practice and maintain active registration with a professional body
  • Able to plan and coordinate programs and events
  • Adherence to the Brokenhead Ojibway Nation Code of Conduct and Ethical Principles of Professional Practice and Code of Conduct
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks, and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last three months
  • Willing to submit to pre-employment drug testing and future random drug testing.
  • Please provide 3 recent employer references with your resume
  • Computer knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office software and programs
  • Must have a valid Manitoba driver’s license and use of a personal motor vehicle
