Brokenhead Ojibway Nation, MB – May 8, 2025 – Raven Indigenous Outcomes Funds and Efficiency Manitoba have announced a transformative partnership to advance energy efficiency, improve housing, and create meaningful job opportunities in First Nations communities. Under this collaboration, Efficiency Manitoba will invest up to $18.9 million through its Community Heat Pump Program by 2029. This funding will support the installation of energy-efficient heat pumps and community-led training initiatives.

Brokenhead Ojibway Nation has been introduced as a key community partner in this initiative. Efficiency Manitoba is contributing $1.89 million to support the Nation through their newly created social enterprise, BON Energy. Raven Outcomes is providing an upfront investment of nearly $7 million, with additional support from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). Together, these funds will enable the installation of 100 ground source heat pumps and support essential home upgrades. The project will also create training opportunities in heat pump installation and maintenance for 12 community members.

“This partnership reflects what’s possible when Indigenous communities are at the centre of the solution,” said Chief Gordon Bluesky of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation. “By investing in our homes and reducing energy costs, we’re advancing economic reconciliation, improving living conditions, and creating long-term sustainability for our Nation.”

This initiative exemplifies a new model of Indigenous-led infrastructure investment that prioritizes outcomes, community benefit, and long-term impact.
