As the Province of Manitoba provides Families living off-reserve under EIA with rental and utility assistance, Caregivers cannot request Jordan’s Principle to pay for rent, hydro, or water.
Getting rent and utility support from other Agencies is putting your EIA benefits at risk of being cut off or paused until a thorough investigation is completed. Brokenhead Jordan’s Principle will NOT falsify information for any Client, as we have a legal responsibility. If your EIA worker calls to initiate an investigation into supports you have received from Brokenhead Jordan’s Principle program, we must comply with the investigation.
Jordan’s Principle is law, and your child/ren have the right to access services, however, as a Caregiver, you also have a legal and financial obligation to your Child/ren, especially when it comes to financial support that you receive in your Child/ren’s name(s). Failure to use those financial supports the way they were intended to be used has serious consequences.
Requesting rent and utility support from Jordan’s Principle while EIA already provides the financial support is called, “reception of benefits from two sources”, also known as
“double dipping”. Jordan’s Principle has the responsibility to implement the Children’s program in a responsible manner and “double dipping” will not be condoned. Going forward, anyone receiving EIA benefits cannot request rent or utility support from Brokenhead Jordan’s Principle.
Brokenhead Ojibway Nation Jordan’s Principle works to ensure the needs of our Children are being met, we respectfully ask for your cooperation in ensuring the supports for our Children are going to meet their needs and the future of our Children’s Program is not being put in jeopardy.
Miigwetch,
Broken head Ojibway Nation Jordan’s Principle Program
