Position Overview

The Economic Development Officer (EDO) is responsible for supporting and facilitating economic development initiatives that promote business growth and community investment. The EDO will work with local businesses, community members, external partners to identify opportunities and provide support to economic development projects. The EDO will report and work directly with the CEO of BON Development Corp.

In addition, the EDO will support the implementation and communication of the Brokenhead Government’s taxation initiatives, helping to build local understanding and compliance while ensuring integration with broader development goals.

Key Responsibilities

Business Engagement and Support

  • Serve as the primary contact for economic development inquiries, assisting businesses with their development and expansion needs.
  • Provide guidance and support to new and existing businesses BON.

Stakeholder Relations

  • Develop and maintain relationships with local businesses, government agencies, and partners.
  • Collaborate with community leaders to identify and support economic growth opportunities.
  • Liaise with the BON Government on taxation-related policies and ensure alignment with development initiatives.

Project Coordination

  • Support and coordinate economic development projects to ensure successful execution.
  • Assist in identifying funding opportunities and resources for business development initiatives.
  • Support the implementation of taxation policies by coordinating outreach to businesses and investors regarding their responsibilities and benefits under BON’s taxation framework.

Taxation Support and Implementation

  • Work closely with BON Government departments to assist in the rollout and administration of local taxation initiatives, including property tax, sales tax, and business licensing where applicable.
  • Support community education on tax policies
  • Compile data and insights on tax compliance and economic trends to inform strategic planning.

Reporting and Communication

  • Provide regular updates on economic development and taxation-related activities.
  • Prepare summary reports and presentations for leadership and stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Business Administration, Economic Development, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of economic development principles and business support services.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
