Brokenhead Ojibway Nation (BON) is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the full-time position of Daycare Manager. Working under the direction of the Health Director, the Daycare Manager is responsible for planning, implementing and supervising daycare activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of children in the program in accordance with all relevant legislation, policies and procedures. The Daycare Manager will assist Daycare Workers in their daily activities, develop programs and activities for children and promote a welcoming and positive environment. The Daycare Manager will build positive and respectful relationships with children and parents.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Exceptional cultural sensitivity in working with First Nations Peoples and Governance
- Plan, implement and supervise daycare activities to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of children in the program
- Supervise and assist Daycare Workers in: developing daily activity plans, providing nutritious snacks and lunches, coordinating sleep and rest time, establishing acceptable disciplinary policies, and guiding/assisting children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
- Develop programs and activities that are culturally appropriate, introduce math and literacy concepts and provide various experiences for children including songs, games and storytelling
- Provide weekly and monthly schedules of activities
- Maintain a welcoming, safe and healthy environment for children and their parents or caregivers
- Regularly contact, liaise with and act as a resource for parents and caregivers; keeping parents informed of program expectations, program activities and their child’s progress
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Politically and culturally sensitive and has an awareness of BON values, culture, and traditions
- Language skills in Anishinabemowin is an asset
- Bachelor’s degree or College Diploma in Early Childhood Education Diploma (ECE)
- Five (5) years of experience as a Daycare Worker an asset
- Five (5) years of experience in a Supervisory position an asset
- Current CPR and First Aid Certificates relevant to the age group being cared for
- Proven ability to successfully work with children and their parents in a sensitive, effective and professional manner
- Strong working knowledge of child development theories and practices
- Strong working knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures to ensure that children are supervised and safe at all times
- Demonstrated ability to create safe and appropriate activities for children
- Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and e-mail required
- Good organizational, time management and prioritization skills
- Strong morals and ethics, sound judgement and reasoning skills, along with a commitment to discretion and staff privacy
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment
- Physically able to perform all assigned tasks
- Must provide a clear criminal record check, child abuse check, and adult abuse check
- Willing to submit a pre-employment drug test
