The Brokenhead Ojibway Nation is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the full-time position of Lands Manager.  The Lands Manager will be responsible for the effective management of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation lands, conducting scientific research, evaluating and creating land-use plans/development and related consultations, as well as programs and services within Brokenhead Ojibway Nation lands and traditional territory. This position works closely with the public and fosters strategic relationships with co-management groups, other First Nation, Provincial/Territorial and National governments.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in lands management or equivalent experience that demonstrates excellent knowledge and understanding of but not inclusive to following:
    • Different Land Management Regimes such TLE, FNLM and BON Land Code
    • Environment Management
    • Matrimonial Real Property
    • Reserve Land Designations and Zoning
    • Addition to Reserve process
  • Successful completion of any university and/or college lands related degree or diploma (Please include copy with resume)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically, both verbally and in writing, with coworkers, Community Members, and with outside agencies, partners and business associates.
  • Ability to prioritize and rank issues in relation to the overall goals of Brokenhead Ojibway Nation.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to negotiate contracts and manage projects.
  • Ability to supervise and mentor staff.
  • Ability to analyze, prepare and reconcile budgets and expenditures.
  • Ability to research, analyze and develop strategic goals, work plans, and policies and procedures.
  • Ability to comprehend and develop policy papers, technical/scientific papers, and present technical data.
  • Ability to function in a cross-cultural environment.
  • Ability to interpret, and apply BON laws, policies, protocols, regulations, and procedures related to the land management and planning.
  • Ability of planning and development process terms and codes; land use planning principles.
  • Knowledge and understanding of BON traditional practices/cultural protocols/historical knowledge/community practices/political environment is required.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of land surveys, environment assessments and land value/assessments.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal, provincial, municipal legislation, policies and procedures.
  • Negotiation and mediation skills.
  • Ability to Manage and Administer GIS Mapping system.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft, Excel, Word, Outlook, PPT, Abode PDF, GIS and Report/Print software programs.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours and able to travel upon request.
  • Willing to submit to pre-employment drug testing and future random drug testing
